To see we must close our eyes
To listen silence is necessary
To find we need to get lost
To connect we need to be awake...
A human hangs inside a woven bag, where the body is cradled in a cocoon-like netted sack of rope, which epitomizes the "labyrinth" of the Greek myth of Ariadna’s thread. She gave her love a thread to help him find his way out from the center of the labyrinth, where he was to battle the Minotaur. Here the tableau signifies one's own need to discover the threads to navigate the inner labyrinth. In the Greek Myth Teseo used Ariadna's thread, perhaps we also need to find the threads that can lead us to the center of our personal labyrinth; only there can we find ourselves. Traversing our own labyrinth we uncover and expose strange figures, who are our own selves, revealing hidden dimensions of being that are at once foreign and strangely familiar. A stream of memories might awaken. A thread that leads, and connects, can also restrict or nurture... If we can become conscious of the thread that connects everything everywhere, perhaps our life can be lived as a stream of consciousness. Throughout the afternoon on Saturday October 28, company members of Garnica AcTS Lab will take turns hanging from the ceiling of Safe-T-Gallery -- surrounded by the photographs of Michel Philip Manheim and the visitors to the 11th Annual Art Under the Bridge Festival. Closing the day, Ximena Garnica will perform solo in the same space exploring the ambivalence of human destiny in an experience of Ariadna’s thread. Garnica will also perform on Sunday, October 29 at 5:00pm. Saturday September 29 At 8:00pm performance by Ximena Garnica (dance) Shige Moriya (live video lighting) Jeremy Salter (electronics.)
